The Vision of the Act East Policy Affairs Department is to extricate North East India from the domestic thinking of denoting it as the peripheral entity of the country to that of a regional focal point of integration of India with the countries of South, East and South East Asia. The paradigm shift envisaged is the placing of the North Eastern region at the centre-stage of the country’s planned outlay with the emerging giants of the ASEAN bloc. The Government of Assam feels that the foreign policy should focus on the North Eastern region as the new engine of India’s growth by taking into consideration the locational advantages of the North Eastern region. This necessitates the adoption of a multi-ministerial approach and the active involvement of the State Governments of the region.
