The Act East Policy Affairs Department, Governmentof Assamincollaboration with the Asian Confluence,Shillong organized a day-long Conclave on “Act East Connect: Prospects and Challenges” from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM on 21st December, 2021 at Hotel Taj Vivanta, Khanapara, Guwahati. The main aim behind this was to disseminatekeyideas and brainstorm on how the historical andcultural linkagesbetweenthe NorthEastIndia and the South East Asian countries can be leveraged to bolster organic growth of collaborative ideas, projects and initiatives on the ground. After the Inaugural Address of the Conclave, a distinguished panel of experts that included Shri SamudraguptaKashyap, renowned Journalist cum State Information Commissioner, Assam, Dr. Dayananda Borgohain, President, Tai Ahom Sahitya Sabha, Prof PakhiSaikia, Assistant Professor, IIT Guwahati, Shri Binayak DuttaAssistant Professor of History, NEHU and Shri Kaushik Deka, Deputy Editor, The India Todaypresented theirpapers in front of a distinguished audience that was hosted by Shri SabyasachiDutta, Executive Director, Asian Confluence.
A Conclave on “Act East through North-East Conclave” to mark ASEAN-IndiaFriendship Year 2022 was organized on on 27th May, 2022 11:00 hours at Hotel Radisson Blu, Guwahati by the Act East Policy Affairs Department, Government of Assam in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and its industry partner, FICCI. The aim behind the holding of the Conclave was to take stock of recent developments and discuss strategies for leveraging the Act East Policy. The Conclave wasattended by Shri SanjeevSanyal, Member, Prime Minister Advisory Council besides Hon'ble CM, Assam Shri HimantaBiswaSarma andother distinguished dignitaries along with Ambassadors& High Commissioners of the ASEAN Countries.
This was followed by NADI 3 (Natural Allies in Development and Interdependence) Asian Confluence River Festival 2022 on May 28-29, 2022 at the Hotel Radisson Blu organized by the Asian Confluence in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, India and the Government of Assam and the North Eastern Council. NADI 3 is actually a celebration of our Shared Riverine Heritage right from the Brahmaputra to Mekong thereby articulating regional cooperation across the Bay of Bengal and the Indo Pacific Region along the South-East Asian region. NADI 3.0 was attended by distinguished dignitaries that also included the Ambassadors of the South-East Asian countries.
To mark the commemoration of 50th Anniversary of Independence of Bangladesh as well as part of AzadiKaAmritMahotsav the visit of 25 (Twenty Fine) Muktijoddhas of Bangladesh to Assam was organized w.e.f. July 16-20, 2022 by the Act East Policy Affairs Department in association with the High Commission of India to Bangladesh in Dhaka. The delegation from Bangladesh which, included 15 Muktijoddhas, 6 Journalists and 4 youth members, was well received at the Guwahati airport and they paid visits to Shillong, Hajo and some sight seeingplaces in Guwahati. Apart from reminiscing the past memories of the Indo-Bangladesh war of 1971 in which India took a leading role, this visit also aimed at strengthening the ties of friendship between India and Bangladesh during present times . The visit came to an end with the final meeting of the delegation with Hon’ble CM of Assam Dr. HimantaBiswaSarma and Chief Secretary, Assam, Shri JishnuBaruah at State Guest House, Koinadhara on 19th July, 2022.
